Karen Thompson is a graduate of the University of Toronto and had a rewarding career teaching in the secondary panel for over 35 years. Karen worked at Monarch Park Collegiate for 31 years, the first ten years as an art teacher and the last 21 years as the main Coop Education Teacher/Monitor. Karen also acted as the Curriculum Leader for the Business, Coop Education and Technology silo and as the Assistant Curriculum Leader for the Business and Cooperative Education silo. From 2001 to 2005 Karen was the Coordinator of the Summer Cooperative Education Programs for the Toronto District School Board. Karen was the head writer of the “School Within a School” Continuous Intake Document for the TDSB. Karen was the recipient of a 2007 District 12 OSSTF Status of Women Award – for Community Involvement. She was also the main organizer of the yearly “Take Our Kids To Work” program where all grade 9 students spend the day with a family member or friend.  Karen has had a long standing history of involvement with Toronto Intergenerational Partnerships, providing coop students to assist in the TIGP office, organizing the yearly “Community Volunteer Fair” at Monarch Park Collegiate, and assisting with the “Citizen’s Environment Watch” Project.  Karen is the illustrator for a new children’s book, “Olivia’s Garden.”
